In a Web Platform session we were set a task to sign up to Wordpress.com create a layout by installing a theme from them and then blog about anything we wanted. I chose to blog about two different subjects, both that mean a lot to me.

The first post I chose to put on my blog was a link to my Soundcloud page, music is an integral part of my life. The link is to my profile which shows songs and mixes that I have either Uploaded or 'Liked' and can be seen within my favourites tab.

The second post I blogged about was the football team I support, Newcastle United. I've been following my team since I was 'wee' lad. The image i posted was of the Newcastle badge and is linked to the Newcastle football clubs website.

I also updated my 'about' page where I briefly described who I am and what I do.

After having a play around with my Wordpress site and after a few struggles It started to become a lot clearer and easier to understand.I believed I could get the hang of it quite quickly. Adding more links, blogging more, and adding widgets would be my next aim. I would also like to play around with the theme, however being a free theme from Wordpress it self I am unsure of how much can be changed.

The screen grabs below show my Wordpress site and can be found at www.samfraser22.wordpress.com

Introduction to Wordpress
The second part to Wordpress, which in my opinion was the more trickier of the two, was to set up a database and perform an install of the latest Wordpress onto my UWE/FET homespace. Below is an image of me downloading Wordpress 3.5.1 from Wordpress.org.
The next step was to uncompress the .zip file and upload them to the UWE server (Milly) in to its own folder. I did this using FileZilla.
I then had to create a database for Wordpress, I did this by creating a MySQL on CEMS. This gained me access to login to PHPMyAdmin where i could look at the database. No table at this point.

I entered the database details into the wp-config.php file, the software was then able connect to the database in order to create the table structure and edit is data.

By entering the URL of the Wordpress folder in my browser I was alerted to proceed with the install. I was confident that the software connected to the database successfully as there were no errors at this point.

I filed out the required fields of the Wordpress install, making note of the username and password for future reference.
once Wordpress was installed I was then able to view the website and enter the admin area.

I entered the admin area where I was able to login using the details I entered into the install form. After logging in I was taken to the main dashboard area of Wordpress.

Wordpress was now successfully installed, and I could begin to learn how it all worked.
